KPMG’s fast-growing Tax and Legal practice are looking for someone with tax experience who has a particular interest in business development to join our growing team. This role is primarily focused on helping to achieve our ambitious growth plan through leading the execution of sales and campaign activity in the market.


We are looking for someone who has a worked in a client facing tax role where business development has been a core component of the job. The successful candidate will be collaborative and client focused, with an ability to spot new opportunities, connect client issues, and identify potential solutions. This opportunity is perfect for someone who enjoys building client relationships and interpreting clients’ issues to match them with the most appropriate solutions. It is also a great way learn more about a broader range of tax issues and our services. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for helping to plan and execute strategies for growing our service line penetration across accounts, so an ability to influence both internal senior stakeholders and clients is key. There will also be a new client acquisition aspect to this role, and will involve being tenacious and resilient to help open new client relationships and help us gain market share.


Responsibilities include:

  • Drive market focused activity to strengthen our client relationships, and deliver excellent client service across the sales cycle
  • Develop a broad understanding of the Tax and Legal practice’s key client issues and propositions
  • Help to develop and execute an origination strategy for a specific business area, and work alongside our leadership to qualify and prioritise market activity
  • Expand stakeholder relationships on existing client accounts by mapping key contacts across the business, and helping to generate meetings with unknown contacts
  • Work alongside our existing client service teams to nurture and grow relationships on high potential accounts, and identify most appropriate successors to lead accounts once relationships are established
  • Build a network across all Tax and Legal service lines and leverage a broad range of experts to ensure clients receive the best possible service for their individual requirements
  • Help to open up new relationships with businesses that are cold to KPMG
  • Lead the activation of campaigns in the market, including helping to refine messaging and identify gaps in our service offerings based on clients’ feedback and requirements
  • Maintain a good understanding of relevant content and market activity, and leverage insights to spot new opportunities
  • Help to identify opportunities for Tax and Legal to collaborate with the firm’s other capabilities, Deal Advisory and Consulting, and help to drive and integrated approach in the market


Skills and experience required

  • Understanding of tax (any specialism)
  • Ability to manage a large portfolio of client relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A commercial outlook with a focus on results
  • Strong influencer, including senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good facilitation skills for client calls and meetings
  • Team player with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to coach and develop others
